Resumen

Como es conocido durante las investigaciones realizadas por Ionin et al., 1977; fueron encontradas arcillas rojas en la plataforma insular; este hecho fue utilizado por Kartashov y sus colaboradores como un criterio más a favor de su hipótesis acerca del origen marino de dichas arcillas.

Aquí analizamos los resultados obtenidos por Ionin en la plataforma insular. Se brinda la forma de ocurrencia y distribución de las arcillas rojas en calas y perfiles y su correlación con las arcillas que afloran en la superficie terrestre, concluyendo que dicha correlación es precisamente un dato más a favor del origen sub aéreo de estas.

Según Kartashov et al. (1981),”El argumento más sólido a favor del origen marino de la formación Villarroja es la ausencia de ésta en la llanura costera meridional de Pinar del Río”, argumentando que dicha llanura constituyó una porción relativamente elevada en la época de esta transgresión.

Frente a este criterio, el autor se apoya en las características hidrográficas de esta llanura para justificar la no aparición de Villarroja en el perfil de formación del suelo.

Abstract

As it is known, during researches carried out by Ionin et al., 1977, red clays were found in the insular shelf. This fact was used by Kartashov and his collaborators as another criterion in favor of their hypothesis regarding the marine origin of the said clays.

The results obtained by Ionin in the insular shelf are analyzed in this paper. Information is provided on the way of occurrence and distribution of the red clays in wells and profiles, and their correlation to the clays that are exposed on the terrestrial surface, concluding that the said correlation is precisely one more datum in favor of the terrigenous origin of these clays.

According to Kartashov et al. (1981), “The most solid argument in favor of the marine origin of Villarroja formation is its absence in Pinar del Rio southern coastal plain”, indicating that the said plain constituted a relatively elevated portion at the moment of this transgression.

Facing this criterion, the author bases his exposition on the hydrographic characteristics of this plain to justify the non-appearance of Villa Roja in the soil formation profile.
